What a night

Last night was a rough night. The day went rather normal. I picked up Andrea from daycare and quickly made some diner for us. I asked her whether she would like frietjes or pasta and she replied “fietjes en fikedel”. She ate the whole frikandel (like she always does) and some fries. After that we played a bit and watched 1tje bumba and 1tje kikker geen sesamstraat together and after that it was time for her to go to bed. She did not fight too much against it. I put on her pyjamas and went to the bathroom to get her druppeltjes and to brush her teeth. She started to walk away and not listen so I told her no bedtime story. She went to bed (without bedtime story) and did not complain. Around 22.15 there was some small cries sound coming from her room. I went up and did not see anything wrong. After that I also went to bed. half an hour later she started to cry rather loud and I jumped out of bed (since normally she does not cry that loud). She was covered with frietjes and frikandel (half digested). I picked her up, took of her pyjamas, cleaned her a bit, put on new pyjamas and put her in our bed. After that I put new pyjamas on and cleaned her bed. We went back to sleep in our bed. Two hours later she started again. This time it was our bed and the floor next to the bed that was covered with frietjes and frikandel (more digested). Again: take off pyjamas, clean, put on new pyjamas, put her in her own bed, take off my own pyjamas, cleaned our bed. After that I went to check on her and she was looking frightened at me, so I took her with me in our bed. After a while dad arrived home and we were both still awake. so we told daddy what had happened. One hour later…. yes the same thing again. So again I took off her pyjamas, cleaned her etc…. This was the last clean pyjamas we had. After this she stayed in our bed and slept until 8.30 although she was  awake for some time and turning a lot.

During the day she was rather cheerfull today. She did not eat too much though, but she does not appear to be sick. She ate some pasta this evening and hopefully that will stay in her stomach tonight. We will keep you posted.

Weekend is over :(

This weekend we were going to celebrate Andrea’s 2nd birthday. On Saturday she woke up at 6am. She was calling me, so I went to see what was wrong and she was standing in her bed all ready to get up and start the day. On friday night we decided to order a mobile airco unit to get some of the heat out of Andrea’s room before she would go to bed. She had quite some trouble getting to sleep the last few days. We ordered the unit at Wehkamp before 9pm and as promissed it was delivered the next day. It was before lunch so we immediately installed it in her room. The temperature dropped a few degrees in 1-2 hours so that was very promissing. During her sleep Deef went to buy the cakes and in the afternoon we had our waterfun outside (as can be seen in other posts). Andrea had a blast with it. The airco unit had been turned on the whole afternoon and when she went to bed the temperature was 22 degrees (instead of 28). She fell immediately asleep, which did not happen the last few days. On Sunday in the morning opa-opa, oma, opa and ome Michel came to visit. Andrea had no idea what to do with the candles on the cake. We were all blowing and she was just looking at us. She loved the cake; she finished a complete piece, although the colored chocolate was “niet schlekker”. When all presents had been unwrapped she asked for more “dootjes” (=presents). After that she had fun with ome Michel’s keyboard. Lunch was 3 sandwiches and she fell immediately asleep. In the afternoon we played with the water table that she got from oma and opa. And at the end of the afternoon Dennis, Yolanda, Luna and Eva  came along. Andrea watched the two girls play and and a very nice time with that. The airco unit was again turned on and she again fell asleep immediately.

So the buying of the airco unit was well worth it already.

See the keyboard in action, here and here.

Travel back

The travel back to The Netherlands went quite good. Although there were some not foreseen hick-ups. Lets start with the begin. We were very early on the airport since we could not check on online. A ground steward was very nice to point us to the bagage drop-of line to check in. We could not find the check-in line but apparently that was a lot longer than the line we went in. All bagage was dropped and we had seats next to each other. We went through customs and waved to Mark in the mean time. Customs went okay so we searched for diner. On advise of Mark we went to Darcy McGee. This was a very good recommendation. Diner was very nice and desert even better. Andrea loved the icecream and mom and dad loved the chocolate sauce and chocolate cookies with it.

Then we went to gate 15 and they had some “kralen” there so andrea had fun. she filled her diaper before we had to go on the plane so that was perfect. On the plane it turned out that there were a lot of kids. Before us was a mom and a dad with a small kid. He might have been a few months younger than Andrea. Of course they had lots of fun looking at eachother. Andrea of course did not want to sleep, but at 10.30 pm she finally fell asleep (the plane left at 6.40 pm). We landed nicely on time (1 am) in London. Shortly before that Andrea awoke very cheerful. In london we rushed to the next plane, but before that we had to check-in again. Before check-in we had to go through customs again. We had removed all liquids from the bags except for Andrea’s bottle of water. If I wanted to taste it I was allowed to take it with me (I told them I was not going to throw away the klean kanteen bottle). Our back carrier was put aside and when we asked several times why we would not get it they finally told us that we had to wait. Still no idea why. Apparently they found something in it. It took them 15 minutes to get somebody to open the bag (I was not allowed to open it and was getting very very annoyed by them. I had told them what it was: desinfecting gel and also told them that it had already passed customs without taking it out of the bag for 3 times. But I was only said to wait). To make sure that I would not become too agressive Deef already sent me to check-in. I could check-in Andrea and myself, but qould not get Deef’s boarding card without him being there. They also needed the luggage numbers (which were in deef’s pocket). Finally the bag was released and we stood again in the line to get deef’s boarding pass. All was good and we had still over 30 minutes before the start of the boarding. Andrea was still very cheerfull and was dancing while we waiting for the boarding. The plane was not even half full so we had three seats. Andrea fell asleep when we took off and awoke when we landed.

At Schiphol we looked at the luggage belt and Andrea had lots of fun to check whether the suitcases were ours or not. We went to the bus that drove us to parking P3. I picked up the car in row 512 (still remembered it after 2.5 weeks) and we drove home. The trip towards home was very difficult. I had not slept at all in the plane so I could nearly stay awake. In the end I opened the window which helped a lot. Andrea loved her kitchen and her toys. We had lunch and went all three to bed. Andrea wook up crying and had a lot of trouble to calm down. I walked with her through the house and that helped her a bit (i guess she did not remember anymore were she was). Andrea went to bed at 7.15 pm, I at 9pm and Deef about 15 minutes later. I did not hear him come to bed anymore. Andrea wook up crying at midnight so we put her in our bed and we woke her up at 8.30 am. She slept again after lunch and she is sleeping at the moment. So let’s hope that all goes very well this night as well.

Tomorrow Andrea goed to daycare and deef and myself are going to attend Gerdi and Ron’s wedding.

End of holidays

Our suitcases are packed. We had to buy an extra bag to make sure that everything would come back to The Netherlands. It is nearly lunchtime. After that Andrea will go for her last nap in the krib. We leave Barrhaven at 3pm to be able to have diner at the airport after all the security checks and before boarding. Hopefully Andrea will sleep in the plane. Her mind is already set to going into the plane tonight. She was saying this morning:”auto titten en vliegetuig titten” so that is all perfect. We had a wonderfull time and would like to thank Mark (papa Aje), Monique (mama Aje) for their hospitality and Alex (Aje) for letting Andrea (annea) play with his toys. Andrea and Alex played a lot together, allthough in the end they were a bit tired of eachother and very possessive of the toys they were playing with.

Mom and Dad are very relaxed and are ready to go home and back to work (at least mom is). On Friday we have the wedding and work will start on Monday for Mommy and July 1st for daddy.

Feeding the ducks

This afternoon we decided to go and feed the duck in the Nedereindseplas and after that wanted to go for a drink at the “skipiste”. The ducks were not hungry and there was a lot of wind. On top of that the “skipiste” was closed. We walked back via the park and finally found some ducks that were hungry. Here you can see that Deef and Andrea are feeding them.

The track we walked can be found here
